Located in Asheville, N.C., the Neil Dobbins Center treats individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health disorders. Known to the greater interstate RHA Health Services network as Facility-Based Crisis (FBA), the program provides short-term crisis stabilization and residential intervention services to adults struggling with behavioral health issues and co-occurring mental health disorders.

The Neil Dobbins Center provides clients with a safe place to stay during a mental health crisis. The typical length of stay is one to four days, as the program is designed for short term assistance. This facility provides treatment for individuals with voluntary and involuntary commitment.


The Neil Dobbins Center is open 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Clients can come into the facility for community-based therapeutic intervention services and assessments at any time. Treatment starts with an evaluation to determine the best course of action and treatment. These assessments are overseen by highly-trained medical staff members.

Clients participate in individual and group counseling. Therapists also help with behavioral management interventions to correct problem behaviors. If needed, medications can be provided managed to support client recovery. Most clients will complete the short-term treatment program as their primary form of treatment. Otherwise, clients may be admitted for longer term treatment that includes ongoing assessments and follow-up treatment options.

Toward the end of treatment, an aftercare plan is formulated that includes ongoing recovery planning. The facility’s staff works with clients to create a support network and to enroll in continued care plan options. Clients are referred to community support services and other treatment, if applicable.


The treatment team at the Neil Dobbins Center includes clinicians, physicians, a psychiatrist, and peer support specialists. All of the center’s staff is highly trained in their respective areas, and have experience working with clients in crises. Trained staff members are available around-the-clock to provide clients with the support that they need.


At the Neil Dobbins Center, clients stay in comfortable bedrooms in a clinical setting. All medications and meals are provided as part of the program. Clients wear scrubs instead of their regular clothes. Personal items are not permitted and will be stored through treatment. Pets are not allowed at the facility (service animals excluded), but the facility can help clients find pet care during treatment.

During treatment, communication with family members is limited. This is done to support a total immersion into the program. Visitation and other communication methods are limited


At the time of this writing, has not received any alumni reviews about the Neil Dobbins Center. However, the facility has received extremely positive feedback from alumni on third party websites, who frequently mention the quality and positive attitudes of staff members. All reviews sourced across third-party review sites gave the center five out of five stars.

The Neil Dobbins Center has two maximum five-star ratings on the facility's Facebook page, and three perfect five-star ratings on Google as well. [1] [2] Alum Brian wrote to Facebook: “the staff there are very well trained and care about their job.” Alum Tiffany added: “Great people and people that really care.” In a representative Google review, alum Isabel wrote: “The peer supports were awesome and I didn't have to pay a dime.”

On CiteHealth, the facility earned five out of five stars from one reviewer to date.[3] The reviewer gave five out of five stars for quality of care and the staff, but gave an average three-star rating for the promptness of treatment.

It helped my loved one while they attended, but they didn't complete the program. Not enough staff or funding. The cost of really good programs is too high for the average person. This program was for those that can't afford it.
