The Recovery Zone I Treatment Center, located in North Hills, Calif., offers a transitional/sober living home for men in recovery from any type of chemical dependency. The North Hills location is known as “Recovery Zone I” while the facility also runs another sober living home known as “Recovery Zone II”, located in Van Nuys, California.

According to the facility’s website, the mission of The Recovery Zone is to provide a family environment for residents that is kept free of any type of substances so that the men can feel safe as they transition from treatment to recovery.

In order to be accepted into the The Recovery Zone sober living home, clients should contact the facility directly to inquire about space. Clients who are taking antipsychotic medications are accepted into the home, however, medications that contain opiates, amphetamines, or benzodiazepines are not allowed.

The Recovery Zone describes themselves as a family, not a treatment center. However, they do try to incorporate the daily rhythms and guidelines of a 12-step program such as AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous). If clients are interested in continuing treatment services while living in the sober home, Recovery Zone will provide referrals as needed. The length of stay at Recovery Zone varies depending on each individual’s needs and how they progress in their recovery. Residents are welcomed to stay as long as needed until they feel ready to transition back to the community.

The Recovery Zone home has a 24 hour on-site house manager to ensure operations of the house are running smoothly. Residents are encouraged to work while living in the home and, eventually during their stay, all clients are expected to find a job. The facility assists residents by find job leads for them and offering computers to help with their job search. Residents also enjoy recreational activities together such as barbeque cook-outs and the home is equipped with exercise equipment.

Finally, The Recovery Zone works with parole and probation officers, judges, and the courts. Staff of the facility will accompany residents to court and/or send in routine progress reports as needed.

Staff at The Recovery Zone includes a 24-hour on-site house manager with several years of recovery behind him or her.

The Recovery Zone 1 is located in a 2800 square foot home within a quiet neighborhood and is intended for male clients. Bedrooms are shared with another resident but the total number of beds is not provided on the facility’s website. Clients are expected to maintain the 11pm curfew for the first 30 days at the home. After the first 30 days, late night or overnight passes may be granted. Toiletries, a bed, and bedding are provided for clients along with three meals per day. Clients are expected to maintain cleanliness around the house and share in household chores.

The facility is equipped with an exercise room including 600 pounds of Olympic weights, dumbbells, arm bars, cardio machines, and more. According to the facility’s website, “there are pictures on the walls, plants on the tables and all the rooms are nicely decorated” to increase the resident’s comfort while at the home. Additional amenities for clients to enjoy include a television in each room and shared computers to help with resume writing, job searching, and leisure.
