Founded in 1990, the Right Step runs more than 20 rehab facilities throughout Texas, making it one of the largest private chemical dependency treatment providers in the Southwest. This facility in Clear Lake is located around 25 miles southeast of Houston, and offers outpatient programming and aftercare for adults.

The Right Step’s treatment programs are based on the 12-Steps. The other core component of treatment is Positive Recovery, a program developed by The Right Step’s chief medical officer. It uses daily meditation and exercises, among other techniques, to help clients to discover meaning and purpose in their lives without drugs and alcohol.

This facility’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) enables clients to create a sober routine, make changes in their thoughts and behaviors, and establish a support network. Clients attend programming for up to 10 hours per week, at least three days a week, in the mornings or the evenings. Sessions include 12-step meetings, individual and group counseling, gender-specific groups, family groups, education about the nature of addiction, relapse prevention, and spirituality awareness. Individual counseling is also scheduled regularly, outside of normal programming hours.

All successful graduates of the IOP are eligible for a free, two-year aftercare program. The program consists of weekly groups that provide support, counseling, and access to addiction recovery resources and referrals. Additionally, all graduates are connected to the alumni community.

And finally, a 12-month continuing care program — called Javelin Continuing Care — links each graduate with a coach who checks in regularly via phone, text, and email. The coach also gives positive reinforcement and provides ongoing education.

The Right Step’s medical director is board certified in both family medicine and addiction medicine. According to its website, the organization also employs master’s level therapists, though details of staff at this particular facility are not currently available.
