I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed chemical dependency counselor who began working in the addiction treatment field in the 1980s. Prior to becoming affiliated with Right Step, I managed three different residential programs and two outpatient programs. My skill sets include interventions, therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and developing and overseeing high-quality addiction treatment programs.
Our master's level therapists provide counseling, process groups, relapse prevention planning and free aftercare for two years for adults and adolescents.
Our programs have a reputation for helping people who have lost hope that they'll be able to turn their lives around. I approach each client as an individual rather than using a cookie-cutter approach and emphasize practical skills that will help you sustain your recovery long-term. Over 80% of clients who commit to follow the recovery process with us go on to stay sober years later.

Founded in 1990, the Right Step runs more than 20 rehab facilities in Texas, making it one of the largest private chemical dependency treatment providers in the Southwest. This facility in North Dallas is located near Harry Moss Park, 10 miles north of downtown Dallas. It offers outpatient programming and aftercare for adults.

The Right Step’s outpatient programs are based on the 12-Steps and Positive Recovery, a program developed by the organization’s chief medical officer. It uses meditation and other exercises to help clients discover the meaning and purpose in their lives without drugs and alcohol.

Clients in the adult intensive outpatient program (IOP) strive to create a sober routine, change thoughts and behaviors, and establish a support network. Sessions include 12-step meetings, individual and group counseling, gender-specific groups, addiction education, family groups, relapse prevention education, and spirituality awareness. Individual counseling sessions are also scheduled regularly, and Friday evenings are set aside for Family Friday.

The program length varies, but typically lasts eight weeks. Groups meet for approximately three hours, three times a week, in the morning or evening.

After the IOP, all clients are eligible for a free, two-year aftercare program consisting of weekly support groups. And a 12-month continuing care program — called Javelin Continuing Care — links each individual with a coach who checks in regularly via phone, text, and email. This helps to ensure that clients maintain the progress they made during treatment.

The Right Step’s medical director is board certified in both family medicine and addiction medicine. According to its website, the organization also employs master’s level therapists, though details of the staff’s credentials at this facility are not currently available.

Alumni review coverage of this facility is very limited, and alumni, loved ones, and staff have not yet submitted reviews to On Google Reviews, however, alumni D.R. awarded a three-star rating,[1] but did not elaborate on her reasons.

According to its website, The Right Step is a preferred provider for Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and United Healthcare. It also works with other insurers, including Cigna and Value Options.
