The Ringer Center, located in Greensboro, N.C., provides outpatient and detoxification treatment to individuals struggling with substance misuse and other mental health issues. Although the facility’s primary services are for adults, the Ringer Center is also able to treat adolescents and children over the age of five. In addition to other services, the facility offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP), a DWI program, and stress management.

According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 41.1 percent of rehab facilities in North Carolina offer IOP and 28.6 percent offer a program specifically tailored to DUI/DWI clients. The same survey indicates that 9.3 percent of rehabs in the state offer detox on an outpatient basis.

To be admitted, potential clients may call the Ringer Center’s 24-hour hotline to schedule an initial assessment. During the assessment, staff determine the appropriate treatment plan for each individual.

The Ringer Center’s treatment program is based around the 12-Steps. Most clients in IOP remain in treatment between three and six months, while the average length of treatment in the detoxification program is between five and ten days.

Throughout treatment, clients receive primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The program also uses motivational enhancement as well as reality therapy and rational emotive therapy (RET). Participants in the detoxification program receive medication such as Suboxone (for those suffering from opiate addiction), and Librium (for those suffering from alcohol addition). According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 25.8 percent of rehab facilities in North Carolina utilize Suboxone.

The Ringer Center also offers marriage and family therapy. A 2017 SAMHSA survey indicates that family counseling is available at 73.7 percent of rehab facilities in North Carolina while marriage counseling is available at 55.3 percent.

The treatment team at The Ringer Center includes seven clinicians, three of whom are licensed substance misuse counselors, a psychiatrist, and two psychiatric nurse practitioners. Several staff members have gone through recovery themselves.

The Ringer Center is licensed by the state of N.C. to provide Driving With Influence (DWI) assessments as well as Department of Transportation assessments for those with violations due to a positive alcohol or drug test.

At the time of this writing there has been one alum polled by The reviewer, C.M. gave the facility mixed ratings overall and said she was not sure that she would recommend the Ringer Center to others. C.M. gave the facility perfect five-star ratings for the staff's experience and training, family participation, and its ability to treat co-occurring disorder, though expressed that counseling options were limited, offering two stars for this metric.

Though C.M. commented that the Ringer Center, “Was a great facility in 2010," she also wrote there is "A lot of staff turnover now and people say quality is really bad.”

On the facility’s Google page, the facility earned an overall rating of 3.9 out of five stars based on 22 total reviews.[1]. Similarly, seven reviewers on the facility's unofficial Facebook page contributed to a four out of five-star average review.[1] Most alumni on these secondary sites gave positive reviews, citing treatment effectiveness and staff as strengths. In a representative review on Google, M.J. wrote, “The staff is competent and caring and have done everything they can to help me." Though limited, negative feedback tended to highlight staff, long wait times, and affordability.

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding the cost of IOP or detoxification services. However, the Ringer Center’s website states that most of these services are covered by insurance, and that payment plans are available for those who need them.

The facility's website notes that DWI assessments are available for a flat fee of $100, Initial Department of Transportation assessments are $175, and follow up assessments are $100.
