The Salvation Army operates Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) throughout the country. This Davenport, Iowa, center (also known as Quad Cities and River Valley ARC), offers long-term, Christian faith-based residential care for adult men and women struggling with substance use disorders. Residents participate in work therapy and receive support for family reunification when possible.

While the Davenport, Iowa, ARC website does not specify the duration of its program, Salvation Army rehab programs typically run for six to 12 months. According to an April 2018 local NBC affiliate (KWQC) story, clients can begin arranging admission via a phone interview.

The ARC program revolves around positive behavior reinforcement, spiritual education and care, and preparation for participating responsibly in society. During residential treatment, residents attend Bible studies and other religious services, receive individual and group counseling, participate in life skills training, and enjoy leisure activities. In addition, clients may be introduced 12-step model of recovery.

To help improve work ethic, learn employable skills, and enhance accountability and responsibility, residents also work at Salvation Army thrift stores in various capacities. The employment also helps to offset the cost of treatment.

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff. However, the two individuals polled by addressed staff in their reviews, both citing a low level of training. One described staff members as “patients.” The KWQC news story of 2018 confirmed that “many of the counselors are graduates of the program.”

Photographs on the Salvation Army’s Davenport ARC webpages present dorm-style living with simple decorations and an industrial kitchen. KWQC also reported a regular center population of 70 to 120. There is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.

The three loved ones polled by at the time of this writing offered differing opinions concerning accommodations. Two awarded three out of five stars for cleanliness and upkeep, and one gave this survey metric five stars.Similarly, meals and nutrition received three, four, and five stars, while exercise and leisure activities ratings were one, three, and five.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni. On Google, one former client of the Adult Rehabilitation Center reported spiritual transformation and “a greater existence” due to the program.[1]

Two of the three loved ones polled to date by would not recommend the Salvation Army’s ARC in Davenport, Iowa, to others, and one would. Two shared concerns about the facility’s religious practices, which limited their ability to visit loved ones. A metric evaluating family participation received one, two, and five stars respectively. Two reviewers also expressed criticism of the facility’s 40-hour per week work expectation. One loved one rated treatment effectiveness five stars and the other two granted just two stars apiece.

Services at the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers are offered free of charge, according to the facility’s website, supported in part by proceeds from the residents’ work at Salvation Army Thrift Stores and private donations.

My son was the one who needed help. I tried , to no avail, to be part of his treatment.. I was told the only way was to attend their Sunday services.... Very poor attitude from the staff, especially the counselor...The are only in it for personal gain. The only positive aspect is that you always have a bed...

My son has a very damaged liver. He volunteered to go into the program. He worked very hard to get through 2 levels...He was within 3 days of going to level 3. Level 3 offers a coarse in fork lift training, one of his goals. The staff decided to send him back to level 1 and start all over again. He decided to leave coming to our home...Not christian like they claim. It's all about the money.
