Located in the Philadelphia suburb of Plymouth Meeting, the Volpicelli Center provides outpatient care to adults struggling with substance use disorder. Specifically, the center offers one of just 26 ambulatory detox programs in Pennsylvania (meaning that such detox programs are available at just 5.2 percent of Pennsylvania rehabs). Detox is offered as a first step in a longer-term outpatient program that includes medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and aftercare.

The Volpicelli Center’s treatment combines medications with behavioral therapies and social support. The center is among the 36.3 percent of Pennsylvania-based facilities that offer programming with the opioid blocker Vivitrol. Details of other medications in use at the center are not currently available.

The program tends to last one year and progresses in several phases. First, clients undergo an initial medical and psychiatric evaluation, which is followed by ambulatory detoxification, if needed — meaning that clients who need to withdraw from drugs can do so in the comfort of their own home.

Next, clients attend three months of weekly sessions to manage their medication and receive mental health support, followed by a further three months of biweekly sessions. The aftercare program consists of monthly check-ins and usually lasts for six months.

The team includes three physicians as well as counselors and nurses. The Volpicelli Center also serves as a research and training center, helping guide physicians, nurses, and other professionals in the field.

REVIEWS has not received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, affiliated friends or family members, or staff, however, secondary sites do yield some reviews, and they're unanimously glowing: the Volpicelli Center has three five-star ratings on Facebook (where the facility can manage its own page) and two five-star ratings on Google.[1] [2] Note that one of these ratings was left by the owner of the facility, and another by a fellow doctor he met at a conference.

"Great Staff / Always there when you need them / there's even a number u can call when they're closed if you need to talk, so literAlly 24-7 / No One is looking at the clock to see if your time is up / Highly recommend if you're seeking this type of treatment out for you or a loved one," Amanda wrote on Google in the only other piece of commentary that accompanied the stellar ratings.

The Volpicelli Center is in-network with Aetna (positioning the center among the 69.7 percent of Pennsylvania-based facilities that accept private insurance), and can provide receipts for treatment for anyone wishing to submit an out-of-network claim.
