Specialization

Out Patient

Outpatient treatment describes all addiction treatment that is not residential. Patients live at home while undergoing rehab.

Medical Detoxification

Drugs and alcohol have widespread effects throughout your body, including but not limited to the addiction and/or physical/psychological dependence that develops with substance abuse over time. Many organ systems are affected by addiction and will react to withdrawal. The term “medical detoxification” means that there is a trained and licensed medical professional onsite to monitor your vital signs and protect your physical and emotional health as your body goes through withdrawal.

Reid Lofgran

Medical Director

Dr. Lofgran makes all the medical decisions for the residents at the Center. Upon admission, vital signs are monitored and a Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) is completed if necessary. After the initial evaluation, any necessary medications are placed in lockup and are taken by the resident under the supervision of a member of the treatment team. The resident enters treatment activities as soon as initial assessment is completed, during the first day of residency. Laboratory work is available, if indicated by medical assessment. Additional medical care will be given according to individual needs. These services are optional and it is the patient's responsibility to pay for them.

ABOUT THE WALKER CENTER – OUTPATIENT ADDICTION TREATMENT

The Walker Center in Twin Falls, Idaho, provides a range of outpatient treatment options to adults struggling with substance misuse and co-occurring mental health conditions. The organization also operates a residential facility in East Gooding, Idaho. Founded in 1976, the Walker Center is a privately owned nonprofit, which make up 9.7 percent of all rehabs in Idaho.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, each client undergoes a comprehensive evaluation that assesses substance misuse history, mental health, and emotional conditions in order to determine their individualized treatment plan. During the three-hour assessment, counselors identify barriers to treatment like a lack of transportation, employment, and related issues.

Outpatient programming is offered through two levels of treatment: high and low intensity. The high intensity outpatient program (IOP) is geared toward those seriously pursuing sobriety while the low intensity program is designed for those in the early stages of change and not ready to fully commit to recovery.

Both outpatient programs incorporate 12-step fellowship, family codependency counseling, problem solving skills, stress management and family communication skills. According to a 2017 SAMHSA survey, 62.1 percent of rehabs in Iowa utilize 12-step facilitation.

The center also uses a range of evidence-based modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive self-change (CSC). Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) may also be used when appropriate to promote a positive self-identity. In addition, the Walker Center offers anger management therapy.

After completing treatment, clients can enroll in the Walker Center's relapse prevention treatment. In these groups, alumni focus on developing coping and intervention skills and learn to utilize support networks.
