ABOUT THOMAS MURPHY CENTER INTERMEDIATE RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAM
The Thomas Murphy Center is located in Willimantic, Conn. and is one of three residential treatment programs for substance abuse under the wider nonprofit organization, Community Health Resources (CHR). CHR offers a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient mental health, substance abuse, and wellness programs for children, adults, and families. The Thomas Murphy Center offers residential treatment for clients who are ready to start the process of transitioning back into the community. The program focuses on employment and education during the day and substance abuse treatment in the evening.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The residential treatment program is for men only and residents can stay for up to 180 days. The facility provides a structured environment where clients reside while they continue their recovery and prepare to reintegrate themselves into the community. Individuals from the criminal justice system, on parole, or on probation, as well as clients on methadone maintenance, are also accepted here.
Clients can expect individualized treatment, a structured daily treatment schedule, individual counseling, family counseling, and counseling groups. The facility also offers recreational activities, support groups, continuing care planning, and referrals for psychiatric assessment and consultation.
There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff. However, the one alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility four out of five stars for its staff support.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility has capacity of 14 beds for men only. There is currently no additional information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings. The one alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the treatment center four out of five stars for its accommodations and amenities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing there has been one alum polled by Rehabs.com. The alum, B.M., who is between the ages of 40-59, gave a generally positive review of the facility. He entered the facility for treatment of substance abuse after making a personal choice to enter rehab; B.M. stayed for 61-90 days. The alum completed treatment successfully, has remained sober for eight years at the time of the survey, and felt that the treatment was worth the cost.
B.M. gave the facility four out of five stars for accommodations & amenities and meals & nutrition. The alum also gave the facility four stars for staff support and for cleanliness. He gave five stars for counselor availability, training/experience of the counselors, and respect for patient’s treatment preferences. He gave only two stars for the flexibility to switch counselors during treatment; two stars for the quality of holistic offerings at the facility; and only one star for the facility’s visitor policy.
Overall, the alum gave the facility five out of five stars. He noted in the commentary that he is now a counselor at the same facility.
WHAT STAFF SAY
At the time of this writing, there has been one staff member, B.M., who was polled by Rehabs.com. B.M. is a current staff member at the facility and is also the same alum who has submitted an alum review to Rehabs.com.
This employee is a counseling staff member at the facility and has worked there between 5-10 years. B.M. reported that there are two licensed medical professionals who are on staff at the facility and two medical professional who are contractors.
B.M. gave the facility four out of five stars when asked about the facility’s executive management/leadership’s respect for protocols surrounding staff training and support and respect for protocols surrounding patient privacy. He gave five stars for the management/leadership’s ability to inspire loyalty/sense of community among patients and four stars for a inspiring loyalty and community among staff members. B.M. indicated that he has not had questions/concerns about standards of care at the facility going unresolved.
B.M. wrote that a strength of the facility is the caring and experienced staff. He felt that the facility could improve upon offering more outside experiences for the residents. Overall, he agreed that he would recommend the facility to a friend or loved one who was considering rehab and would also consider entering the facility himself if ever needed again.
According to its website, Thomas Murphy Center accepts Medicaid, HUSKY Part A & Part B, Medicare and most major health insurances as partial or full payment for services.
