Located in Oakland, Ca., Thunder Road Youth Services offers short-term inpatient, a long-term residential program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and aftercare services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, patients undergo an initial substance abuse history assessment to help clinicians determine an appropriate level of care. According to the facility's website, Thunder Road Youth Services is designed to treat adolescents "involved in the habitual abuse of nicotine, alcohol, or drugs."While the inpatient program admits walk-in clients, the long-term residential program and PHP are designated for youth referred by a governmental agency.
During Thunder Road Youth Services' inpatient and residential programs, clients participate in a structured schedule of evidence-based programming designed "to make fundamental improvements in their social, emotional and behavioral functioning." Residents participate in family counseling sessions and group therapy, including gender-specific counseling sessions to address issues common among adolescent males and females struggling with chemical dependency.
In addition to counseling sessions, residents also participate in educational workshops on relapse prevention and anger management. In addition, Thunder Road Youth Services incorporates 12-step principles and practices into programming, Clients may attend on- and off-site 12-step meetings, study fellowship literature, and perform associated "step-work." Once a client completes an inpatient or residential program, clinicians may encourage the individual to utilize the facility's IOP as a "step-down," transitional aftercare service.
Thunder Road Youth Services' IOP consists of 10 hours of weekly programming. Similar to residential and inpatient programs, the length of the outpatient program may be dictated by the individual's needs. During IOP, clients participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions to address any underlying issues that may contribute to relapse. After program completion, the facility invites clients to participate in weekly aftercare sessionsand stay connected to the program through its alumni organization.
Thunder Road Youth Services employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of substance abuse counselors, child and adolescent psychologists, nurses, social workers, and case managers.
