ABOUT TOUCHSTONE RANCH RECOVERY CENTER
Set in the rolling hills of Hico, Texas, about 90 minutes southwest of Dallas, Touchstone Ranch Recovery Center (TRRC) provides residential treatment for individuals struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. TRCC runs a 90-day program, with options for 30 and 60 days, in addition to on-site medical detoxification, only one of 44 non-hospital, residential facilities in Texas to offer detoxification services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, all clients undergo an initial assessment to determine the appropriate length of treatment for their condition. Individuals who have been diagnosed with co-occurring mental health disorders are reassessed once the detoxification process is complete, as the center believes that chemical dependency may affect the accuracy of certain diagnoses.
TRRC bases its treatment approach on equine therapy and 12-step principles. The center believes that caring for horses while undergoing counseling helps residents understand boundaries and building their confidence, communication skills, responsibility, and trust. Additional treatment methods used include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
In addition, the center runs a three-day experiential program in which families can develop their communication skills. Following completion of their treatment, residents are encouraged to attend daily 12-step meetings and obtain sponsorship.
Touchstone has a team of registered nurses, certified equine therapists, case managers, substance abuse specialists, psychiatrists, and fitness instructors. According to its website, TRRC staff possess more than 125 years in recovery.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
In addition to its horse stables and surrounding countryside, the ranch features an on-site serenity labyrinth designed for personal reflection and meditation. Touchstone has capacity to accommodate 26 clients at a time and offers options for private rooms.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Alum Kimber found the facility’s strengths were its equine therapy and “caring staff” but felt that the facility could’ve improved its food. M.J.K., the other alum, stayed in treatment for between 61-90 days and felt that treatment was successful and worth the cost. Both alumni indicated that they’d strongly recommend treatment to others.
TRRC also has excellent average ratings of 5.0 and 4.7 out of five stars, respectively, from four Google reviewers and 50 Facebook users. Several credited the facility with saving their lives, while many others praised the dedication of staff.
WHAT STAFF SAY
The two staff members polled by Rehabs.com to date also left mixed reviews. While one gave the facility five out of five stars for its executive management, respect for protocols surrounding staff training and support, its financing support for patients as well as for pricing, the other gave only one star in each of these areas.
