Areas of Specialization
Process Abuse Treatment
Not all addictions involve mood-altering chemicals. The term “process addiction” describes the unhealthy use of behaviors (including eating, gambling, sexual activity, shopping, internet use, etc.) that has spiraled out of control and into the realm of addiction.
Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.
Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment
These two terms describe a person who is not only addicted to drugs or alcohol, but also has a mental or emotional illness, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc. Facilities that treat patients with dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorders provide psychiatric treatment in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation services.
Client & Family Support Groups
Group therapy is a vital component of addiction recovery treatment, considered as important and effective (sometimes even more so) than individual therapy. Benefits include reducing isolation and loneliness and providing the opportunity to learn from others in recovery. In the addiction setting, group therapy is run by trained professionals who guide participants toward a shared goal of recovery.
Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

Going through Tree House saved my life! Before Tree House I was a wreck of a man. I could not stop the horrible cycle of addiction. I was on the street, sleeping in cars hopeless and suicidal. I completely destroyed my relationship with my family and didn't have a single true friend. Tree House taught me how to love myself. Bit by bit my therapist Billy Grande showed me who I really am in our one on one sessions. In addiction ed I was taught all about the disease witch allowed me to stop putting so much blame on my self i was drowning in guilt, but once I understood what had really been going on with my brain, body, and my actions things started getting clear. I started to put my life back together piece by piece almost like a puzzle being able to see the good in the people around me and spin it off in my way and claim it as my. I developed social skills, confidence, and determination. After about two months into the program I was convinced I would never allow myself to slip back in to the past unhealthy life. I can honestly say that these past 16 months of my life have been my best and my journey is only beginning. I have been to many other treatment centers and nothing will ever compare to Tree House I owe them my life. If you or a family member are struggling call them now! Get your life back and enjoy all the world has to offer.

Here at Tree House Recovery, we have learned that there is a very particular “recipe” for an effective, impactful and successful Chemical Dependency Counselor. Some truly essential ingredients include…a balanced blend of humanity and intelligence for translating scientific data in language that resonates for clients still under the spell of PAWS… a charismatic humility for grabbing and holding the interest of an audience with very limited recent exposure to the “classroom dynamic”… a solidly flexible spine that allows for the seamless transition from teacher to task master to caring mentor in the blink of a client’s eye. In reality, it is indeed a special human who can honestly claim these attributes to be naturally his own. In Billy Grande, we have been introduced to that “rare blend.”

ABOUT TREE HOUSE RECOVERY PDX
Located in Portland, Ore., Tree House Recovery PDX is a long-term residential program for men struggling with chemical dependency. Unique to Tree House Recovery, the facility utilizes both evidence-based and traditional methods, as well as an intensive physical fitness regimen throughout the residential program to promote sustainable recovery. The facility does not provide medical detoxification services on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients may undergo an initial substance abuse history assessment to help clinicians develop an individualized treatment curriculum. Overall, Tree House Recovery PDX's treatment utilizes three core approaches to programming: counseling and education, holistic methods, and physical fitness training. The length of the long-term residential program is determined by individual needs and treatment progress.
During the resident program, clients attend both process group therapy and one-on-one counseling to address the underlying concerns that may contribute to addictive behavior. Residents also attend educational presentations and interactive group classes that cover a range of topics related to chemical dependency, including the physiology of addiction, predisposition factors, and relapse prevention skills training.
To improve mindfulness, self-expression, and coping skills, Tree House Recovery also requires residents to participate in writing therapy. According to the facility website, writing therapy is designed to address "a wide variety of personal traumas and emotionally painful experiences." In addition, clients attend trauma-informed method of yoga.
As stated, intensive physical fitness training plays a major role in overall programming. During the residential programming, residents participate in vigorous workouts led by Tree House's trainers. One component of the fitness regimen is Action Based Induction Therapy, or ABIT, which is repetitive form of exercise that is designed to improve the prefrontal cortex function of the brain. Often diminished through prolonged addiction, this part of the brain is responsible for overall mood and self-esteem. In some cases, fitness training may also be goal-oriented, as residents may compete in monthly competitions, such as Spartan races and team challenges.
Tree House Recovery PDX employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of a physician, substance abuse counselors, specialized fitness trainers, and a yoga instructor.
