Turning Point - Freedom Center for Women Philosophy

Turning Point Treatment Center's philosophy is based on the fact that addiction is a disease and utilizes a clinical model to treat the individual. Shortly after admission, an assessment is completed to determine the level of care appropriate for the client. Based on the assessment, a treatment plan is developed with the client that allows the client to recognize the severity of his or her addiction, gain knowledge of addiction and recovery, identify and deal with issues that may block ongoing recovery, and utilize available support for ongoing recovery.

Areas of Specialization

  • 12-Step
The term “12 Step Program” describes a way to recover from addiction that is based on the model developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. Many drug and alcohol treatment centers base their treatment on 12 steps – the first three of which are situational, the next four addressing the practical issues created by the addiction, followed by two steps focused on making amends for hurting others. Steps 10 and 11 involve a deeper examination of the previous steps and the final step is focused on helping others avoid and recover from addiction.

  • Family Program
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

Turning Point’s medically monitored detoxification unit is one of just 46 (9.2 percent) of its kind statewide.

Many clients begin with medically monitored detoxification services for an average of four days.

The non-hospital program aims to alleviate a client’s withdrawal symptoms and ensure them a safe detox process. It is one of just 165 (32.9 percent) of facilities statewide that provides Suboxone for detox from heroin and other opiates. Clients in detox also typically take their assessment and begin the treatment process before transitioning into residential treatment.

Short-term inpatient treatment typically lasts 14 to 28 days and is individualized for each client; it includes participation in group therapy five days per week and individual counseling at least twice weekly. Turning Point also runs specialized groups in relapse prevention and anger management.

The long-term program ranges widely from 90 to 120 days and is built for individuals who have history of relapse (or indicate a high potential for relapse). Clients focus on developing essential life skills like job searching, money management, and parenting and have opportunity to complete their GED.

Clients attend local Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings as well as meetings that are held on-campus each morning. The center is host to a free family program on Saturdays from 12:45 to 4:45 p.m.

I did the detox there I have to say the building it\'s self was old and over populated. They ran out of room in the men\'s building and ended up moving a large amount to of them to sleep in the detox unit. That was upsetting considering it wasnt fair to the people waiting to get a bed to detox. I the. Did the rehab in patent and they took me to freedom house. It was very homey feeling . but they had the longterm and the sort term people staying in the same house but there was alotnof favoritism with the long term girls. It made feel like I was not good enough. I hated the phone times they only have u ten minutes every other day and that if u didn\'t have a meeting to go to. I then left on mothers day when they wouldn\'t let mW call my children but had allowed another girl to call her mother three times. Well I felt it was unprofessional and uncalled for... They preach humility and kindness but they show that its only when u conform to what they want u to be.... I will never go back again.
