ABOUT U-TURN FOR CHRIST NEW MEXICO

As its name suggests, U-Turn for Christ NM is a Christian-based residential recovery center, which provides treatment for men and women struggling with substance abuse. One of 14 U-Turn for Christ discipleships in the U.S., there are facilities in, for example, California, South Carolina, Tennessee, and New Jersey, as well as around the world. U-Turn for Christ NM is located in a quiet residential area of the South Valley neighborhood on the southern outskirts of Albuquerque.

The center does not offer detox services. To enter the program, clients must have a 24-hour record of sobriety prior to admission and, according to the website, “cannot have any warrants or significant health hindrances.” This facility accepts court referrals, who must complete both the first and second phases of treatment, for a minimum of eight months of participation in the program.

Within the state, U-Turn for Christ is among 44.1 percent of private nonprofit treatment facilities for substance abuse, among 47.8 percent with specially tailored programs for adult men, and among 51.5 percent with programs for adult women.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

At U-Turn for Christ NM, recovery is rooted in biblical teachings, focused on establishing or strengthening a relationship with Jesus. "Jesus is the only way to true freedom from the bondage of the sin of addiction," the center's materials advocate. As such, the program uses alternative methods of treatment that do not involve clinical psychology or 12-step principles. The organization views addiction as a sin and aims to help its residents achieve restoration through religious teachings and guidance.

The program is split into two phases. Phase One lasts two months and Phase Two lasts six months, for a total duration of eight months. During that time, clients participate in work therapy along with Bible study. They also do volunteer work on the premises and in the community. Within the state, U-Turn for Christ is among 10.3 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities that offer long-term, non-hospital residential care.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

At U-Turn for Christ NY, clients live in gender-specific residences. The Men’s Restoration Ranch has been operating since 2013 and the Women’s Restoration Ranch since 2017. Residents should bring a Bible with them to the program as well as pens, highlighters, clothing for one week to wear for work and church, a blanket or sleeping bag, sheets and pillow.

Vehicles, cell phones, computers/tablets, iPods/media players, and non-biblical reading materials are prohibited. Following a 14-day probationary period, clients may receive visitors on Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m., limited to immediate family members. Visitors and residents alike must abide by a strict dress code, which includes restrictions on secular logos, short and tight clothing, and pants that sag.

In addition, for the first two months of participation in the program, clients may not make or receive phone calls or emails, and all communication during this time must be in the form of postal mail and with immediate family members only. The facility enforces a strict non-smoking, non-tobacco code.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, four alumni submitted largely favorable impressions of U-Turn for Christ NM. Of the total, three reviews were positive and one was negative. Satisfied alumni attributed their successful results to the program's grounding in Christianity, expressed in a representative review as: “U'Turn for Christ is a highly structured environment geared to teach us to take the focus off of ourselves and put it onto others but ultimately onto Jesus Christ our Lord and savoir. This program saved my life, as it pulled me from the darkness and taught me how to trust again.”

Another alum added: “No better way to leave the SIN of addiction but to put your faith in a SAVIOR!!!!" However, one negative reviewer took exception: "Food is all awful," they reported to Rehabs.com, added "Force God down your throat. Say addiction is absolutely NOT a disease," and complained about housing conditions and more. That said, this former client attained and remained sober since treatment.

On secondary sites, U-Turn for Christ NM has received mainly positive coverage to date: 3.8 out of five stars based on 10 reviews (alumni, loved ones, others) on Google. [1] Of the total, seven reviews were perfect five stars and three were one out of five stars. Satisfied reviewers reported life-changing results after failing to attain sobriety at other facilities, such as five-star reviewer Steve: “After years of addiction and going to many programs my church sent me to U Turn For Christ. It was hard but God’s word being taught every night and the strict structure help change my life.”

Five-star reviewer Jesse echoed that sentiment: “This place has completely changed my life! I'm a prime example of someone, whom everyone thought, would never climb out of the muck and the mire of addiction. Through U Turn for Christ, I have accepted a dramatic transformation.” Critical comments concerned more emphasis on discipline than problem solving, bad decision making, and problems with house leaders.

Both awarded the top five stars to the major categories of treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. They praised the committed staff members, crediting them and the Christian focus of discipleship with clients’ long-lasting transformation, and would recommend the program.

I am very grateful for the program in it's entirety and the dedicated staff that unselfishly and enthusiastically have dedicated their lives to being a help to others.” The other reviewer shared: “For nearly 5 years we've seen changed lives come from U-turn New Mexico. We wholeheartedly support U-turn and their Godly principals that change lives.”

I had family members in and out of rehabs of one sort or another for years. until U Turn there was absolutely no lasting success. I am very grateful for the program in it's entirety and the dedicated staff that unselfishly and enthusiastically have dedicated their lives to being a help to others. Alcohol and drug addiction is a bigger problem then most understand and it is my opinion that it can not be overcome without realizing how precious each and everyone is to God. U Turn is a great place to start.

RMF

U'Turn for Christ is a highly structured environment geared to teach us to take the focus off of ourselves and put it onto others but ultimately onto Jesus Christ our Lord and savoir. This program saved my life, as it pulled me from the darkness and taught me how to trust again. Its given me hope and has given me the courage to continue, using his strength and not my own. The structure of this program creates trust, and promotes forgiveness as it teaches us how to live with godly esteem. Remaining humble and realizing that we need help is the key in recognizing that life is not about us and that Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. Thanks to U-Turn for Christ I now have a loving, close relationship with Jesus Christ and a beautiful hope for a future and a better life.

Force God down your throat. Say addiction is absolutely NOT a disease. Makes promises on working with you then goes back on their word, not just for little things but HUGE things. Food is all awful, and donated from albuquerque rescue mission. heater in add on to house is broken, so my friend that was in the back had a room that was so cold (with a portable heater on) despite getting 1000 dollars a person, plus donations, plus the pay thry got for the free labor they require from you. Any time something is questioned you are giving writing essays about verses that speak about God appointing leaders and doing as your told by them. Last but not least. Finished program, still sober, so some effrctiveness! However I'm only sober because I don't ever want to go through such terrible living conditions again. I ate better in jail.
