ABOUT UNITED COUNSELING SERVICE
Founded in 1958, United Counseling Service operates 16 facilities across Vermont and is a private non-profit facility, which make up about 85 percent of all treatment facilities in Vermont. The treatment facility located in Bennington is an outpatient treatment center that offers a range of programs for people who are struggling with substance use and mental health disorders.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to United Counseling Service's website, treatment starts with evaluations, medical screenings, and diagnosis. Following evaluations, clients can start treatment is a number of programs.
The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is available for individuals who are struggling with substance use or co-occurring disorders. IOP programming includes Acceptance Commitment Therapy, recovery planning, motivational interviewing, and change-based treatment.
The treatment center also offers outpatient substance abuse programs. Treatment may include family and group therapy with eduction, individual and relationship counseling, and referrals to self-help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
The center provides a range of outpatient mental health and substance use treatment groups including anxiety and depression group, Committed Action Value-Informed Therapy (ACT), dialectic-behavior therapy, Good Grief Group, IPLAN Wellness Group, Men's Recovery Group, The Mindful-Based Sobriety, parenting group, Relationship Dynamics, Women's Seeking Safety, Women's Recovery Group, and Value-Based Living.
The treatment center offers intensive medication assisted treatment program. This program combines buprenorphine medication (one of 25 Vermont facilities to offer buprenorphine), intense services, and behavioral therapy to treat opioid addiction.
The Individual Preparing for Life, Action and Need is a re-entry program, which is designed for people leaving incarceration. Services include weekly individual treatment, case management, intensive outpatient programs, and transitional housing.
The treatment center has an elder care program for individuals 60 and older. The employee assistance program offers a range of services such as confidential assessments and counseling support. Utilizing this program for your business can help identify troubled employees and motivate staff. The program also provides coaching and consultation to managers and supervisors.
United Counseling Service also operates Project Rocking Horse, which is an educational support group for low-income pregnant and parenting women who are at ricks for substance use. It's also available for pregnant women whose partner are struggling with substance abuse.
United Counseling Service's website notes the treatment team includes nurse practitioner, counselors, and case managers.

Yet, the five people who left reviews for United Counseling Services at the time of this writing provided an average of 3.6 out of five stars. All but one individual wrote positive things about the center, including praise for the supportive staff. 
"Although at times there are challenges in the work place, employers are great about working with staff to work together and through them," a current employee wrote. "Very supportive and flexible."
According to United Counseling Service, it accepts private insurance, Medicaid (accepted at 42 Vermont facilities), Medicare (accepted at 28 Vermont facilities). Programs are also funded by the State of Vermont general fund.
