ABOUT VALLE VISTA HEALTH SYSTEM

Founded in 1983 and located in the southern Indianapolis suburb of Greenwood, Indiana, Valle Vista is a freestanding psychiatric hospital offering a range of treatments for children, adolescents, and adults.

The hospital’s chemical dependency programs consist of medical detox and acute inpatient care for adults and adolescents (aged 13 to 18), as well as an acute inpatient program for adults with co-occurring disorders, a residential program for girls aged 12 to 18, and outpatient services at a range of intensities.

Valle Vista is also one of just 13 Indiana facilities to offer an opioid treatment program, which includes medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Valle Vista believes that addiction is a treatable disease, and aims to help clients to understand and desire a healthy lifestyle, free of chemical dependency and other compulsive behaviors.

Treatment begins with a free 45-minute assessment, which is used to determine the most appropriate level of care. The intensity and duration of treatment are monitored and adjusted as clients progress through the treatment spectrum.

Reviews submitted to Rehabs.com indicate that treatment is strongly based on the 12 Steps. As a psychiatric hospital, the center is also well positioned to take care of the medical side of addiction and provides medication management. There's also an on-site pharmacy.

Clients participate in individual and group therapy and receive education about the nature of addiction and recovery. Under the center’s discharge planning services, all clients leave with an aftercare plan.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, addiction counselors, and activity therapists. The seven loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date about the staff gave them above average ratings.

Staff’s level of training and experience: 3.9/5

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The majority of alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date (nine out of 11) gave Valle Vista positive reviews. They described the treatment as effective and the facility as well-run and organized, and noted that staff was helpful and caring. "Great staff, groups, and easy admission," wrote A.E.L. in a representative review. "It was very effective and you are treated like a human being."

Valle Vista received less enthusiastic feedback on Google[1], where it earned an average rating of 2.6 out of five stars based on 65 reviews. The most common complaints included long wait times, rude staff, and a lack of therapy, as well as a tendency to over-medicate. A handful of alumni who were in the facility solely for psychiatric care also noted that the treatment was poor. "If you need Mental health treatment stay far away," Derrick noted in a representative review. "I went for depression and anxiety. I never saw a therapist."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Reviews from loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com were split down the middle. Of the 12 friends and family polled by Rehabs.com date, six indicated that they would recommend the facility and reported that treatment was successful for their loved one.

The remaining six complained about a variety of issues, including a lack of exercise programs and ineffective treatment for clients with co-occurring disorders. One mother backed up alumni assertions that the facility over-medicated its clients.

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, the center accepts Medicare, Medicaid (for those aged five to 21), TriCare for inpatient treatment, and most private health insurance policies.

I went in for two assessments and both times they told me that do not worry about the financial part regardless of me having a $6000 deductible on my health insurance they said with they would work out a payment plan after being discharged if I was unable to meet my deductible

We arrived at 11:45am for an evaluation for my husband to go to detox. Finally get seen at 5:15pm! The lady thought my husband was a joke and just trying to get more drugs. She did not listen. She was rude. Finally she said she had to speak with the dr and left for an hour and 30 mins!!!! Finally she came back and said we could go to St Francis to get admitted. Waste of time! Do not go here

I liked that it was close to home, emergency admissions, on site treatment. Out patient treatment available No exercise programs, need other outlets besides tv, cards, puzzles and sleeping My son was kept sedated the firstb48 hours. He slept the entire time, did not have anything to eat or drink except water with his next scheduled dose of meds. He was in there for 10 days and sent home. I do not feel this is long enough to help much and definitely is not enough to be sent home alone.

They don't listen to patient, are rude, don't follow doctors orders and combine patients with different degree of help. Fights everyday with people there just to get help on depression

I was a patient here, and this place, quite literally, saved my life. I am forever grateful for the people who helped me, and will/have gladly recommended Valle Vista to friends in need of help. God bless this facility and It's workers!

Linda

My daughter was in st. Francis hospital Er with severe alcohol withdrawal, suicidal thoughts, etc. the social worker made a referral to VV. They would not take her as she had an lie ostomy. Which she has cared for for the last 20 years. This is sad and disappointing.

I went here in 2008. The facilities were very well kept and the staff was very accommodating and nice. The staff knew how to help and did so. Treatment for depression was very good. Overall experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend for depression or drug/alcohol detox. Stayed 10 days and changed my outlook on life.

Great staff, groups, and easy admission. It was very effective and you are treated like a human being. However, there is an overflow of psych pts to CD side.

Our daughter was there about 6 days. Suppose to be a dual diagnosis treatment center but all they did was detox. Blame that on insurance.

Facility is well managed and gives good basis to continue with AA. Great facility.

Let patients know that its okay to have to start over. Relapse is part of recovery. Sometimes a person is not ready. You have to be 100% willing. The whole withdrawal and mind so messed up. Usually they don't know what pain and mental confusion they will suffer with. Some, well just can't take it.
