ABOUT VETERANS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM OF THE OZARKS

Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, located in Fayetteville, Ark., offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and outpatient mental health treatment to United States Veterans seeking treatment for substance abuse and/or mental health conditions. It is one of four (3.5 percent) of federal treatment organizations in the state. Detox is not available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The facility’s treatment program follows evidenced-based methods, especially the Recovery Model of treatment. This model focuses on positive characteristics in a Veteran’s life in order to overcome their challenges. Goals are based on each client’s hopes and desires for success in treatment.

In order to be admitted, clients must contact the facility directly to schedule an appointment or Veterans may receive a referral from their Primary Care Doctor. Veterans in need of substance abuse treatment attend a 28-day intensive outpatient program (IOP).

The Mental Health Services department provides intensive treatment options for clients with moderate to severe mental health conditions. The treatment process focuses on trauma-informed treatment options including counseling for PTSD. There is also a program for Military Sexual Trauma (MST). The facility is one of the 73 (64.6 percent) of Arizona treatment centers to offer marriage counseling as well as family therapy.

An inpatient treatment option is available for clients that experience suicidal and homicidal ideation. Additional services include a Psychosocial Rehab and Recovery Center, Compensated Work Therapy Programs & Vocational Services, and drop in legal assistance with legal aid. There are only 17 (7.8 percent) facilities in Arkansas that offer employment assistance and/or training.

Throughout treatment, clients receive a variety of evidence-based treatments. Methods include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), Problem Solving Training (PST), Social Skills Training (SST), and more. Additionally, there are numerous treatment groups for the variety of mental health concerns that are treated such as substance use treatment groups, anxiety group, recovery groups, women’s trauma group, PTSD group, and more.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility is staffed by counselors and case managers with experience treating clients with trauma-related conditions, veteran experience, and mental health conditions. One friend or family member of a client polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing was neutral when asked if the facility staff were experienced and well-trained.
