ABOUT WELLSPAN PHILHAVEN

Philhaven is a south-central Pennsylvania-based behavioral health care agency offering a full continuum of treatment services for adults and children struggling with mental health disorders. Located 13 miles east of Hershey, the Lebanon-Hathaway Park facility is one of the nonprofit organization's outpatient clinics - and one of 353 (70.3 percent) outpatient facilities in the state.

While addiction recovery is not the focus of this facility, some treatment for secondary substance use disorders co-occurring with primary psychiatric illness is available. This is one of the 255 (50.8 percent) facilities in the state offering this service. The behavioral health hospital in Mt. Gretna provides short-term residential and intensive outpatient programming. Philhaven was founded as a faith-based organization and is now part of the WellSpan health network.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Typically, clients are referred to WellSpan Philhaven in Lebanon; however, some walk-in appointments are available, according to the hospital's website, during which an initial psychiatric evaluation is conducted. Early morning and evening schedules are offered.

Outpatient mental health care at this facility tends to focus on individual counseling, and Philhaven's website highlights the nonjudgmental, collaborative approach that treatment staff members take. Although some support groups meet at Lebanon-Hathaway Park, a substance abuse group is not offered.

Among the evidence-based treatment modalities used are dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), various trauma-informed practices, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Clients are typically struggling with such conditions as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Along with counseling, medication management is available as indicated.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Staff Experience and Training: 4/5

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two former clients of Philhaven in Lebanon polled by Rehabs.com to date expressed strong satisfaction with most aspects of treatment. Less than 20 percent of the 15 metrics measured received ratings lower than four out of five stars. These alumni agreed that treatment was affordable, the facility was clean, staff members were well-trained and experienced, and there were good options available for counseling approaches. Family participation feedback was split between three and five stars. One reviewer praised the extensiveness of programming available.

Two Google users at the time of this writing reported favorably on the facility, both awarding five out of five stars for the facility.[1] Similarly, five individuals gave the facility an average rating of 4.2 out of five stars on Facebook, which the facility may manage. [2] Two individuals referred to the staff as "amazing," and M.B. added, "The service here is excellent."

In stark contrast, seven Yelp reviews for Philhaven generated a 1.5 out of five-star average rating, with six users granting only one out of five stars, and one awarding five.[3] Most of the Yelp reviews specifically referenced the Mt. Gretna facility.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com on the Lebanon facility also offered high ratings for overall treatment effectiveness, affordability, and counseling options. However, ratings tended to be lower for holistic therapy offerings and dual diagnosis treatment. Two- and three-star ratings for the admissions and discharge procedures echoed some complaints on Yelp. One family member reported concerns with weak enforcement of program policies, while another described some treatment as "a bit harsh."

WHAT STAFF SAY

While Rehabs.com had yet to receive staff feedback for this facility at the time of this writing, 33 Glassdoor users produced a 3.2 out of five-star average rating out of five.[4] While many reviewers commended the dedication of co-workers, others felt the facility could be understaffed at times, and some were critical of upper-management.

FINANCING

The Lebanon-Hathaway Park Philhaven facility's website does not publish treatment costs, but does indicate that several private insurance plans are accepted, as well as some parts of Medicare (accepted at 25.1 percent of treatment facilities in the state). Some financial assistance is available to qualifying clients. The four individuals polled by Rehabs.com generally appreciated the facility's cost.

Affordability: 4.3/5

The facility's strengths were its program time frame and its extensiveness in the program. The weaknesses were the facility's visitors policy and its policy on different activities and activity times. This facility has a great program. I'm glad that I finished the program and would undoubtedly refer someone to this program if they were interested.

They work together with parents/family. some of the "required" treatments were abit harsh. My sister was admitted for behavioral issues. It was court required. She would attend school then be driven from school to the center for treatment. Basically it was part mental teaching and part physical(like bootcamo on a smaller scale). They helped to teach her to better manage her aggressions and anger.

freedom, commitment were strengths but need to work on enforcement. IT wasn't my treament but my sisters. She was there for having stabbed someone for insulting my other sister in school with a razor knife. She was admitted for anger problems. She stayed at home and went from school to the program. she'd eat supper there and come home around 8-9pm. They wanted her to take medication but it was her/parents choice. long story short she hasnt stabbed anyone since then so Id say the program was effective in that department atleast
