Review by Rehabs.com Contributors

Founded in 1850, Wheeling Hospital is a long-standing provider of medical treatment to clients of all ages in West Virginia, Eastern Ohio, and select areas of Pennsylvania. The facility's behavioral health department provides outpatient psychiatric services to children and adolescents. Detox is not available.

Wheeling Hospital provides behavioral health services to children, and is one of the 17 facilities in West Virginia to provide similar treatments to adolescents. The facility focuses on addressing behavioral health concerns in a wide spectrum way rather than focusing specifically on substance abuse.

The treatment process at Wheeling Hospital includes outpatient therapy options, which are used to identify and address underlying factors to behavioral health disorders. To determine each client’s specific needs, the facility uses comprehensive mental health and substance abuse assessments. The mental health assessment makes Wheeling one of 68 facilities in the state to use it as an analysis method for planning treatments.

Clients meet with psychologists that address their conditions from a biological, psychological, and social approach. Treatments are preventative and designed to help teens navigate away from drug and alcohol use so as to avoid school, relationship, and legal problems. The one loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing indicated that the program utilized 12-Step and faith-based treatment approaches. The 12-Step program is used in 73 percent of U.S. facilities for its spiritual component and long-term treatment options.

Wheeling has access to a wide range of other medical specialties that can be used for treatment as well. It is the only facility in West Virginia that offer acupuncture to treat symptoms of addiction.

The treatment team includes a medical doctor and psychiatrist. However, Wheeling Hospital has access to a large selection of medical specialists in other fields that can contribute to treatment options as needed. The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility five out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

On Google, Wheeling Hospital as a whole earned an average rating of 2.7 out of five stars from 79 reviews to date.[1] Reviewers provided negative feedback about there being “nowhere to park” and long wait times. How reviewers viewed staff varied based on their individual interactions. Some identified the staff as “caring” while others wrote how they were “horrific” and “nasty.”

The single loved one surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Wheeling's behavioral health program a mostly positive review, awarding the hospital five out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, its counseling options, and its treatment of co-occurring disorders. Lower ratings of two and three stars were given to the facility for its holistic offerings, its family participation, and its cleanliness. However when asked, on a scale from one to five, if they would recommend the facility, the reviewer gave a rating of five.

Wheeling accepts a range of private insurance plans and offers financial assistance to clients who qualify. Clients that are below 400% of the national poverty line qualify for discounts, while clients that are under 200% of the poverty line qualify for free care. Wheeling is one of the 72 West Virginia facilities that provide free treatments for impoverished clients. The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility one out of five stars for its affordability.
