Investigating Lakewood Recovery Centers An effective Lakewood drug rehab facility combines psychosocial therapies with pharmaceutical strategies to help clients stay clean and sober after completing the program. Medications like naltrexone, acamprosate and buprenorphine have helped thousands of addicts and alcoholics overcome their cravings and lead healthy lives.

When you're choosing a program in Southern California, look for a treatment center that offers a variety of tools to help you in your recovery.

What to Know Before Entering a Program

Located in Los Angeles County, California, the city of Lakewood originated as a planned community during World War II. During its history, Lakewood has benefitted from the economic and technological progress of the region, but the city has also been influenced by the drug trade in Los Angeles. Highly addictive drugs like heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine can turn a promising life into an exercise in despair. When you've reached the stage of physical and psychological dependence on a drug, you may need more than counseling and group therapy to get beyond detox. Lakewood addiction treatment programs include medication therapy as one of the core components of an effective recovery plan.

How Can Naltrexone Help Me in Recovery?

Naltrexone (brand names: ReVia, Vivitrol) is prescribed to help people recover from alcoholism or opioid drug addiction. According to the National Institutes of Health, naltrexone may be taken orally or through a monthly injection to:

  • Block the pleasurable effects of alcohol
  • Minimize the euphoric effects of opioid drugs
  • Help recovering addicts and alcoholics resist cravings
  • Increase your chances of long-term abstinence
