Clinical Program Manager/Primary Therapist Recovery Institute of Ohio

My name is Jessica Kitchin and I am currently the Clinical Program Manager/Primary Therapist at Recovery Institute of Ohio. In August of 2018, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Addiction Counseling. I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Obtaining these degrees and progressing in my life was always part of my plan as a child; however, when I started drinking regularly by the age of 12 and using drugs at the age of 16, I didn’t think my life was going to end up the way it has. Even though I attended college for education, I found myself drinking and heavily using drugs, until I dropped out with one semester left. My addiction completely controlled my life.

Established in 1856, the city of O’Fallon retains many elements of its history while providing its residents with all of the advancements of the present. Things to Consider Before Entering Treatment
Drug and alcohol addiction affects Missouri’s residents at all stages of life. In this family-oriented community, pregnant women may fear legal action if they try to seek recovery before the birth of a baby. According to Missouri law, health care providers are required to report substance abuse in pregnant women. However, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services notes that this public health legislation does not take a punitive approach to pregnant women who struggle with addiction. Instead, these women are referred for substance abuse treatment in order to prevent complications such as:

  • Low birth weight
  • Brain or spinal cord defects
  • Premature birth
  • Neonatal drug withdrawal

Addiction Treatment for Women in Missouri

The Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation (CSTAR) program is a unique approach to treating adults, children and adolescents who’ve been harmed by drugs or alcohol. In particular, CSTAR offers a comprehensive series of recovery services to women, including:

  • Substance abuse counseling
  • Temporary housing
  • Childcare
  • Support for children who come with their mothers to a treatment facility

By state law, women who are pregnant or who have children in their care are given priority when referred to addiction treatment programs.
