A Guide to Being Admitted Into a Rehab Clinic

What can you expect when you begin drug addiction treatment? Each person’s experience should vary based upon their drug of choice, how long they’ve been using or drinking, whether or not they are dependent upon multiple substances, their mental health, and their medical health. In general, however, you can expect:

  • Detox: The first step in drug addiction treatment is to stabilize physically. In other words, immediately stopping the use of any and all illicit substances and – in some cases – utilizing medication to treat the physical symptoms that often accompany that experience.
  • Psychotherapy: Personal therapy and group therapy are two of the most common forms of therapeutic treatment at a drug rehab program. Both provide different benefits for the patient who is learning how to live without the use or abuse of illicit substances.
  • Alternative and holistic treatment options: Nutritional counseling, cinema therapy, adventure and ropes courses, family therapy, acupuncture, massage and bodywork – there are so many different kinds of therapeutic interventions that can be effective in helping patients to learn how to make healthy choices that do not include drugs and alcohol.
  • Aftercare services: No one goes home after drug rehab and remains clean and sober for the long-term without investing time and effort into their recovery. Continued personal therapy, group therapy, 12-step programs, and seeking out other methods of psychotherapy and healing can help you to stay focused on your continued sobriety.
