Information on Tigard Treatment Centers
As their town is located only minutes south of beautiful downtown Portland, Tigard residents live in affordable proximity to one of the finest cities on the West Coast. Among the many local amenities, Tigard drug rehab centers help local men and women curb their addictions and achieve healthier lifestyles. With so many things to see and do in the green state of Oregon, no one should ever have to remain in the jaws of alcoholism or drug addiction.
Paying for Rehabilitation
For decades, heroin has accounted for life-threatening addictions and countless incarcerations. The drug affects users in the worst possible ways, with many heroin addicts suffering depressed breathing patterns and fatal strokes. When injected through shared or second-hand needles, users can contract hepatitis and HIV.

According to numbers gathered by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), 605,000 US residents aged 12 and above had used heroin during 2008.

The drug can be snorted, injected or smoked, and the effects are characterized by an initial rush that is soon followed by dry mouth, cloudy thoughts and heaviness of limbs. As usage continues and one adjusts to the drug, larger doses are needed to achieve similar highs. The NIDA suggests that 23 percent of users become serious heroin addicts. Are There Medications for Heroin Addiction?

According to the NIDA, the following opioids have shown remedial value in the treatment of heroin addiction:

  • Buprenorphine: A pain reducer and addiction suppressor
  • Methadone: A pain killer and craving reducer
  • Naltrexone: Primarily counters alcohol and opioid dependence
  • Naloxone: Generally used to counter opiate overdoses
