Discovery Point Retreat

They Accomadated every need for My Son from Day he made his decision to seek help. He flew to Texas and was picked up at the airport by staff. I was allowed to see him the very next day, visitation were just about over but they let us have a visit anyways. Rooms are spacious and may not be a facility as someone stated but the House is Large, spacious, clean, and just has that home, secure, quiet, inviting feel. The are is perfect quiet and serene. Therapy and couseling on site my son loved everything about the way the had control of everything that was in his best interest. The staff, The Chef, The People i always knew how his progress was coming along and even included in therapy sessions. My son understand about addiction, the triggers, the control and the reason and maintains his sobriety, contact with others that were also in treatment with him, He considers all of them as family. Everyone there made him feel so comfortable, important and loved. At check out it took us all day for him to get everything together because he was truly going to miss Everything and Everyone, ( The Food) The outings, The Therapy, The couseling . The Owners, Management, The Staff I commend on The excellent job they are doing The are all Truly a Blessing. Strengths: Their knowledge in all areas of helping everyone. Knowing exactly what each persons individual needs are from The addiction ,the emotional, therapeutic, dietary. Weakness: Sober Living facility. I think my son was probably sent to the worst one. Was told he had to have a job within 2 weeks or going to be kicked out while another individual was there before him, still there and still unemployed. My son working 3rd shift going to sleep at 6 a.m. was woken up anyways for meditation at 7 even though he just worked at 12 hour shifts ( inconsiderate) people were eating his groceries. And managers of the house had dogs and dog hair everywhere and were offended that he mention about the dogs being all over furniture. Cardinal House of Dalls/Garland definitely Not recommended and was really in awe that Discovery Point Retreat would even be affiliated with a place like that. That would be the only negative on them with me.

Help for All Co-Occurring Problems

One of the first states founded in the US, Massachusetts has seen its fair share of drug-related crimes over the years. A news item put out by the District of Massachusetts – U. S. Justice Department illustrates drug trafficking activities within a Massachusetts correctional facility. When left untreated, addiction can quickly lead to a life of crime designed to support a drug habit.

At the heart of addiction and criminal activity lies an inability to cope with life pressures in a productive manner. This inability is also a common symptom of mental illness. In drug addiction treatment, any conditions affecting a person’s addiction must be identified and treated along with the addiction problem.

Relationship Between Drug Abuse and Mental Illness: Gender Differences

According to Psychiatric Times, co-occurring disorders appear at similar rates in men and women, though there are differences in the types of mental illnesses men and women experience. Some of the data compiled includes the follow patterns:

  • Men with addiction problems tend to develop antisocial personality disorders.
  • Women with addiction problems are more likely to develop depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorders.
  • Men are more likely to suffer from mental illness before becoming drug addicted.
  • Women are more likely to develop mental illness after becoming drug addicted.
