Areas of Specialization
Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.
Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

ABOUT ARROWHEAD LODGE
Arrowhead Lodge, located in the city of Prescott, is nestled in the Rocky Mountain pines of Northern Arizona. This extended-care residential treatment center exclusively serves men over the age of 30 who are struggling with substance abuse, PTSD, sex addiction, depression, mood disorders, and anxiety. Other offerings include an Impaired-Professionals Well-Being Program and Outpatient Aftercare Program.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Upon admission, clients receive a psychological assessment, assuring that co-occurring disorders are diagnosed and addressed. During their subsequent 45- or 90-day stay, they receive psychiatric and medical care, and participate in a mix of mental health, trauma, and family counseling. Psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and spiritual counseling are other key treatment components, and residents may engage in equine therapy, mindfulness activities, and nutrition education. Additionally, 12-step recovery principles and meeting attendance are an important part of the curriculum.
The program for professionals is similar in design, but makes special considerations for individuals with licenses that are overseen by a board. Workshops address professional burn out, boundaries, and ethics.
Outpatient aftercare is mostly conducted in a group setting in a local transitional living home, though individual counseling is available on an as-needed basis. Arrowhead Lodge makes referrals to similar transitional living facilities outside of the Prescott area too.
According to the facility’s website, the multidisciplinary treatment team includes a double board certified addiction psychiatrist and addictionologist, a board certified psychologist, licensed therapists, a registered nurse, master’s level counselors, and a nutritionist. The staff to patient ratio is 1.5:1 to provide individualized care.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Arrowhead Lodge has the look and feel of a mountaintop ski retreat. Giant windows let in sunlight and provide stunning views of the natural setting. Sleeping quarters are shared, and the spacious bathrooms are equipped with soaking tubs. Residents have access to a game room, theater, and fitness room. Each client receives nutritional education and counseling, and menus are planned by a registered dietician. Clients can enjoy outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, camping, and wilderness expeditions.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni reviews largely are positive. R.Mc.Q. submitted a top five-star review to Rehabs.com that described the program as one for “deep and life life long change.” He added: “The only facility in Arizona gender specific for men over the age of 30, all therapy done by master level therapists licensed in the state of Arizona. Beautiful environment for men looking to resolve trauma and addiction in their lives.”
Google reviewer alum Michael also provided a five-star rating and commented: "I believe their 'Mindfullness' approach to treatment is a great alternative to the conventional ways of recovery. I especially liked the staff and the way they treated me as a person rather than a client number." Tim, another five-star reviewer, said he was "forever grateful to this program and their counselors." Yet, alum Matt rendered a one-star review: “As far as the management of Arrowhead is concerned, first appearance would seem that they're very professional. But having stayed there for 90 days and dealing with the aftermath of Arrowhead my opinion has changed somewhat."
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Reviews from loved ones are very limited, but positive. Georgia gave her father’s treatment five stars on Google. My dad also found it extremely helpful that all of the men were around his age,” she wrote.
