River Oaks Treatment Center
TA Geneen and Jason the new TA really vibed with me. Sally the nurse is a sweet heart. The nursing team was very helpful. Some of the staff I cant remember their names to recognize. Mattie the care coordinator helped me with cigarettes on my first day here and talked me off the ledge. She gave me support and helped me handle what I was struggling with so I didn't leave. I'm so glad I stayed. Leah my case manager helped me with my discharge date and to find resources when I leave here like my primary doctor, my therapist and after care. Olivia my therapist gave me stress management skills and coping mechanisms. She helped me understand how to talk to a therapist because I had never done therapy before. I liked the groups because I could hear other peoples stories. Even the people I didn't relate to, it was good to hear that I'm not the only one with issues. I learned how messed up I was. I didn't think it was as bad as I thought it was. I thought alcohol wasn't a problem but now I understand that alcohol will trigger me to do other things.

Detox was good. I got all the meds, sleep, food and therapy I could of asked for or needed for that week. After detox I went to PHP for 22 days in Ft Lauderdale which taught me the coping skills/tools needed to beat my addiction regardless of whatever life may throw at me. Classes are instructed by a great staff of facilitators on various topics and are all day from 7:30-3:00, followed by outings to the beach which is only a 15 minute walk away. We had that option to cook our own BBQ every night on one of the several onsite gas grills. We also had a gym with a decent amount of equipment and free weights along with a nice pool table, ping pong table, and XBox/PS gaming area. My main concern after completing detox and php is how I�m going to explain that my new tan is truly from my stay at a treatment center and not some island vacation. Great personal discovery, great recovery.
