Actor Tom Sizemore is speaking out about a leaked “drug den” video that surfaced in January, blaming his past issues with drugs for the scandal.
Sizemore, best known for his role in Saving Private Ryan, had struggled with drug addiction for decades and even appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010 in an effort to get clean. He reported being completely sober since his time on the show, but the 23-minute video showed him making racist comments about Mexicans while allegedly using heroin and crystal meth.
“He smokes [crystal meth] through a glass pipe. You can tell Tom is not well – he’s sweating profusely in the video,” said an eyewitness. “The world should see this video because then maybe Tom will realize he’s killing himself with drugs and clean himself up for good.”
It’s humiliating and I say some things that are on it, things that are terrible, but I’m totally intoxicated and my life was a wreck. But I’ve been clean for over four years.-Tom SizemoreBut speaking to the Daily Beast, Sizemore said the tape was filmed before he entered rehab and that the owner of the film originally asked him for $500,000 to not release it. “I stopped taking his calls, and he ended up selling it to Radar Online for $1,200,” explained Sizemore. “It’s humiliating and I say some things that are on it, things that are terrible, but I’m totally intoxicated and my life was a wreck. But I’ve been clean for over four years.”
However, this isn’t the first time Sizemore has dodged questionable behavior by linking it with his past. Last February, a leaked video showed Sizemore claiming that actress Elizabeth Hurley had a yearlong affair with former President Bill Clinton. The Heat actor said that Clinton ordered him to provide Hurley’s phone number after he initially refused and that the former President ended the romance when he began to develop real feelings for her.
After Hurley threatened to sue, Sizemore retracted his statements and said the video was recorded without permission during his days of drug use.
“I’ve never met President Clinton. I’m not denying saying these things…[but] I don’t remember saying these things,” he told Huffpost Live, with his manager present. “My perception was not the greatest.”
I’m a utility infielder right now, but I feel like I’m back on the club and going to be able to get some at-bats.-Tom Sizemore on his career
Since getting sober, Sizemore has slowly begun to revitalize his acting career. He had a recurring role on Hawaii Five-O and featured in several straight-to-DVD movies including Company of Heroes and Cousin Sarah.
Now that Sizemore’s slowly regaining his reputation as a reliable actor, he also believes that another Hollywood smash hit isn’t out of his future.
“I’m finally getting able to audition for big directors again and in the last six months the tide has turned. I’ve gotten close on some very big jobs,” he said.
