Connect with Philadelphia Treatment Programs
Admitting that you have a problem with drugs or alcohol is one of the hardest things you might ever have to do. It is, however, only the first step on the path to recovery. After all, admitting that you have a problem isn’t the same as understanding how to control that problem. You’ll need help from an addiction treatment program in order to gain that level of control.

If you live in Philadelphia, there are many programs that stand at the ready to help you, and finding the right program to meet your needs is easier than you might think.

Benefits of Enrolling in Rehabilitation

It might be easy for you to identify how an addiction has changed your life. Addictions might also impact the people you live with and interact with each day, and you might not even see the negative impact of those interactions while you’re under the influence. For example, a study in the journal Child Abuse and Neglect found that abuse and/or neglect of a child occurred in 41 percent of families studied with an alcohol- or opiate-addicted parent. It’s likely that these parents never intended to hurt their children, yet the addictions caused them to do so. As this example makes clear, addictions can distort your perceptions and make it difficult for you to make good decisions, and this could impact both you and all of the members of your family.

Rehabilitation programs are designed to help you overcome the physical and mental changes the addiction has caused. They may also provide you with help in other areas of life, including your:

  • Parenting skills
  • Housing
  • Education level
  • Employment

By addressing all of your life stresses, these programs help you to build up a completely new way of living, and perhaps reduce your temptation to medicate your problems with drugs or alcohol.

Involving Your Family

Your addiction program may include family therapy. Here, your family will have the opportunity to learn more about addiction, and you’ll all have the chance to examine prior trauma and learn to overcome those old issues together. It can be painful to think about exposing your family to therapy, but it’s important to remember that your family members want to help you improve. They might jump at the chance to provide you with help in such a concrete way.
