Specializations

Individualized Treatment

Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.

Holistic Therapy

Facilities that offer “holistic therapy” see and treat patients in the context of their entire lives and health status. They treat the “whole person,” not just the addiction.

Aftercare Support

Addiction recovery does not end with discharge after completing a rehab program. Facilities that offer aftercare planning and/or support work with patients to ensure sustainable recovery by helping to plan and make arrangements for transitional or sober living, help with housing, vocational counseling, etc.

Family Program

Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

ABOUT MIDWEST RECOVERY CENTERS

Midwest Recovery Centers (MRC), in Kansas City, Mo., is a group of long-term sober living residences with extended treatment for men struggling with with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. The multi-stage rehab program is based on 12-Step and evidence-supported psychotherapy. MRC opened in 2016.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Residents progress through two phases of treatment at Midwest Recovery Centers. During the first approximately 90 days, men attend at least 18 hours of group therapy and one individual therapy session each week, along with daily 12-step meetings.

The second, less-structured phase lasts up to six months. Residents obtain employment, attending around 10 hours of group and individual counseling each month and continuing with their Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) programs.

Among the modalities applied at MRC are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and rational-emotive behavior therapy (REBT). Residents learn about grief, family of origin, nutrition, and anger management. Loved ones are encouraged to participate in recovery through educational and counseling sessions.

Dual diagnosis treatment plans address such conditions as eating disorders, trauma, and personality disorders. Throughout their stay, clients receive medical and wellness check-ups and participate in random drug testing.

For up to a year following residential rehab, aftercare is available in weekly outpatient meetings and continued drug testing.
